What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the gold standard of tooth replacement because of their ability to fully restore your smile above and below the gumline. Offering greater stability in the form of a post that mimics natural tooth roots placed within the jaw, they support custom restorations that can withstand normal daily wear and tear and produce a more confident smile.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process
- Initial Consultation: You and Dr. David will go over your health history, including any problems that might currently exist inside your mouth (i.e., gum disease, tooth decay, jawbone resorption) as well as any health conditions that could prevent dental implant success.
- Dental Implant Surgery: Once cleared for surgery, we will administer local anesthesia before positioning the dental implant into its proper place along the jawbone.
- Osseointegration/Abutment: The implants will need to fuse with the jawbone (osseointegration), which can take anywhere from 4-6 months to complete. At this time, we will have you come back into our office to receive your abutments, which are the connector pieces that help hold your restoration in place.
- Delivery of the Final Restoration: The last step before you can begin to enjoy the benefits of your fully restored smile is receiving your final restoration. This may be a crown, bridge, or denture, depending on how many teeth need to be replaced by dental implants.
Benefits of Dental Implants
While the other tooth replacement options are successful in helping individuals perform daily tasks with greater ease (i.e., eating and speaking), dental implants are on a higher level because of the root-to-crown restoration they provide. Not to mention, they have the potential to last decades with a 20+ year average lifespan when done correctly and properly cared for. With them, you can eat the foods you love, speak without slurring your words, and smile with renewed confidence knowing that your oral and overall health are in the best possible shape.
